ENERGY CODE COMPLIANCE
SUN ROOM ADDITIONS
*Per Amendments to the 2005 Indiana Residential Code, Chapter 11, Energy Efficiency, Indiana
Amendments, Sun Rooms are allowed reduced energy guidelines when certain conditions are met.
*SUNROOM
-
A one-story structure attached to a dwelling with a glazing area
in
excess of 40 percent of
the gross area of the structure's exterior walls and roof.
It
must meet the following criteria:
Room Area <= 500 sq.ft.
Glazing Area
>=
40% of the gross area of the structure's exterior walls and roof.
Thermally Isolated
Not used as a Kitchen or Sleeping Quarters
Separate Heating/Coo ling System or Zone
THERMAL ISOLATION - Physical and space conditioning separation from conditioned space(s). The
conditioned space(s) shall be controlled as separate zones for heating and cooling or conditioned by
separate equipment.

*An addition that does not meet all of the above requirements is considered a standard room addition
and must meet all insulation requirements as the main structure. All normal or sunroom additions
require a freeze compliant foundation.
