Dual Enrollment Frequently Asked Questions
What is Dual Enrollment?
It is an opportunity for eligible high school students to earn
lower-division college credit during their regular high school
classes. The credits students earn through dual enrollment are
treated the same as regular college credit, i.e. allows students
to work towards certificates and an associate’s degree within
Maricopa Community Colleges and can be transferred to
other Maricopa Community Colleges and Maricopa Transfer
Pathways and Partners.
Dual Enrollment or Advanced Placement?
Dual enrollment classes are based on the grade students
receive in the class; if they pass (with a grade of C or better),
they earn the credit. Receiving college credit in AP classes is
dependent upon earning an adequate score on the AP test at
the end of the year.
What are the benefits of Dual Enrollment?
Since you are already in the class, why not get college credit
for it? You can save money through community college
tuition rates and your textbooks are provided by your high
school. Save time by finishing college classes early and
gaining access to free college resources including the library,
computer labs, tutoring and more.
What is a FOI?
FOI stands for Fields of Interest to help you clarify which
career path you are interested in pursuing.
Who is eligible to enroll?
Dual Enrollment students must be attending a participating
high school and meet the general admission eligibility
requirement of proficiency on AZMerit or meets on AIMS
Science or PSAT≥720 or SAT≥720 or ACT Composite≥12 or
completion of the college placement method. Some classes
require a qualifying placement test score. Refer to your high
school Dual Enrollment class list.
How do I sign up?
Students must have access to technology and the internet. All
processes are online, no paper forms will be accepted. Follow
Dual Enrollment Registration Steps.
Course Placement
Our college utilizes multiple placement methods for 11
th
&
12
th
grade students ONLY to determine college course
placement by high school transcripts, SAT Scores, ACT
Scores and/or placement tests. All other students must test.
Refer to your high school Dual Enrollment class list or Dual
Placement Testing Guide.
Did not score high enough on the placement test?
Retesting must be done BEFORE the registration deadline.
Students will be permitted one re-test in English, reading, or
math level after at least a 24-hour waiting period.
How much does Dual Enrollment cost?
The in-state, in-county tuition rate is $85 per credit hour.
There is an additional $15 registration fee per semester for
each college you register through. Note: tuition is subject to
change.
Is Tuition Assistance Available and Guaranteed? Tuition
assistance (Maricopa Grant) is available but is not
guaranteed. Tuition assistance is based on first-come; first
serve and you must meet eligibility requirements. If you are
not awarded tuition assistance, you will be expected to pay
the full tuition amount by the deadline. To apply, students
submit an online application by the deadline. No paper forms
accepted.
Last day to request a refund?
This is the same day as the payment deadline.
Did not pay your tuition by the payment deadline? Failure
to set up an official payment plan or pay tuition in full by the
payment deadline will result in students being automatically
dropped, without notification, from their college class(es).
You will not earn the college credit for your college class(es)
and students will be unable to re-register for courses after the
payment deadline.
Changing your schedule after registering?
It is the student’s responsibility to drop the class by the
payment deadline. Email the GCC Dual Enrollment office at
dualenrollment@gccaz.edu with your full name, college ID
number, high school name, and the class you want to drop or
change by the payment deadline.
Why should I activate my Maricopa student email?
To use the EdReady placement tool, you must have activated
your Maricopa student email. Also, the status of your
Maricopa Grant application and registration request is sent to
this email address. Students are responsible for all
communication sent to your Maricopa student email. To
activate it, visit google.maricopa.edu.
What’s the difference between my MEID and my college
ID number?
Think of your MEID as your username to access online
services with the college. You will use this to log into your
Student Center and access your student email. Your college
ID number is used to identify your unique student account: if
you call us about issues or call our Student Business Services
to make a payment, this is the number you should have on
hand so we can access your account as fast as possible.
Here’s how to tell the difference between the two:
Your MEID will start with the first three letters of your
first name, followed by seven numbers.
Your college ID number is eight digits and will always
begin with the number 3.
How do I find my MEID and College ID Number?
For your MEID: go to my.maricopa.edu, click the Student
Center icon and then click the “Forgot Your MEID?” link.
For your college ID number: go to your Student Center, then
log in with your MEID and password. Scroll down to the
Personal Information section and click “Demographic Data.”
The first item listed next to ID is your college ID number.
