DISTANCE LEARNING REGULATIONS
Students in the College of Human Sciences & Education applying for distance learning courses are responsible
for the following regulations listed below:
No more than 25% of the degree hours required for the bachelor’s degree may be taken through distance learn-
ing.
No more than two general education courses can be taken via distance learning.
Students may enroll in a maximum of 19 semester hours of combined distance learning and regularly enrolled
coursework during the fall or spring semester, and a maximum of 12 semester hours during the summer.
Distance learning coursework does not count toward full-time university status.
The dean’s deadline for completion of all distance learning coursework is set for the last business day of final
exams in the semester of enrollment.
Student’ applying for a distance learning course that may extend into the last 25% of their degree program
(typically the last 30 hours) must submit an appeal to request to enroll. Taking distance learning in one’s last 30
hours could potentially delay graduation.
Appeals to take a distance learning course in the last 25% of the degree are approved for the following 3 reasons:
the class is full, the class conflicts with another required course, or the class is not offered.
Students who have scholastically dropped from the university may not enroll in distance learning courses for de-
gree credit.
The Office of Independent & Distance Learning recommends a minimum of 3 to 4 months to complete an dis-
tance learning course. This allows time for submission and grading of assignments and exams. Please keep in
my mind it can take up to a month after all coursework is completed for a final grade in a distance learning
grade to appear on a students transcript.
Please read, sign and date.
By signing below, I acknowledge that I am aware and responsible for the regulations listed above. Additional require-
ments can be found on the LSU Independent & Distance Learning website: https://is.lsu.edu/uipolicies.asp?nid=402.
