All applications and submitted material must be postmarked or emailed by April 15
th
for upcoming academic year. All scholarships
are awarded only when funds are available. No scholarships are available for summer sessions. Students not awarded an incoming
scholarship may apply for the continuing student scholarship next academic year.
We must have a valid e-mail address for you and this application must be neatly printed or typed. Illegible applications will not
be processed. Incoming freshmen must also provide a copy of either their ACT or SAT test scores. Transfer students must provide
a copy of all previous transcripts.

AGREEMENTS:
A. I understand and agree that this scholarship requires that I maintain a
cumulative GPA of 2.75, or I may lose support if I do not maintain the Initial _____________

80% of ALL departmental sponsored art activity per semester (a) {happenings, Initial ______________

C. I understand and agree that this scholarship requires that I join and actively
participate in the departmental Student Art Organization and I may lose Initial ______________
support if I do not fulfill the active participation requirement.
D. I understand and agree that this scholarship requires me to assist with ALL
functions/events sponsored by the Department’s Gallery Committee for the
duration of this scholarship. This requirement is varied as to the help performed; Initial ______________
from helping set-up exhibition, removing exhibition, with receptions’ publicity,
etc. Committee Chairman will oversee this help and sign off on this requirement.

E. I understand and agree that this scholarship requires me to be enrolled full
time for the entire academic year at Alabama State University with a minimum
of 12 credit hours per semester. Of those 12 hours, a minimum of 6 must be Initial _____________
Visual Art classes offered by ASU. I must confer with the chair if situations arise
that prevent me from taking six (6) credits in art courses. If I can not meet this
requirement, this scholarship may be reduced or withdrawn.
F. I must notify the department immediately of any change in my enrollment status
to determine if that change would affect thisscholarship. Failure to notify the
department will result in an immediate forfit of the scholarship and bar applicant Initial _____________

G. I understand and agree that my GPA will be checked each semester to ensure that the Initial ______________
minimum standard is met.
H. I understand and agree that at the end of each SEMESTER I will be evaluated by a Initial ______________
faculty committee to determine my continued eligibility.

ADDITIONAL APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS
1. Please include a typed statement (250-500 words) addressing why you want/need this scholarship. Include any
special financial circumstances you are currently facing. Attach the statement to your application form if you are
sending it via US Mail. If you send this application electronically, please send it as a PDF attachment. THIS
STATEMENT IS REQUIRED AND YOUR APPLICATION WILL NOT BE PROCESSED WITHOUT IT. If
sent electronically, you will be notified of receipt.
2. Please supply three letter of recommendation for this scholarship. One letter should be from an Art Instructor
with the other two coming from outside the art classroom.
PORTFOLIO REQUIREMENTS
Applications will require an electronic portfolio. DO NOT submit original pieces as they will not be accepted.
Portfolio specifications are listed below. Please follow directions carefully. Applicants that do not include all required
information will not be considered for a scholarship this term, but can reapply next academic year using the continuing
student application.

Student portfolio may include both 2-D and 3-D work. 2-D work must be represented in one image (one extra
detail image is acceptable). 3-D work must be represented in two images (two extra detail images are
acceptable). Detail image must be noted in presentation and on inventory list. Portfolio must consist of ten (10)
works created over the past twelve (12) months. Works can be projects from classes or work created on your
own. Please double check that your electronic file can be opened and/or your CD is readable. The Department
will not contact students for resubmission. CD’s will NOT be returned.
STATEMENT OF CONSENT
I,_______________________________, do hereby give the Alabama State University Department of Visual Arts my
consent to secure and/or receive any information necessary and appertaining to the processing of this scholarship
application. This includes but is not limited to my academic records, financial aid records, and statements (written and
oral) concerning my status, activity, and matriculation at my high school, Alabama State University, and any other
colleges or universities I have attended. I shall hold blameless the ASU Department of Visual Arts, Alabama State
University, its employees, faculty members, etc. and understand that this application DOES NOT obligate the Visual Arts
Individual Scholarship Program nor any entity of Alabama State University to award me a scholarship in any amount nor
for any period of time. Any scholarship awarded is always contingent upon continued budget allocations and
performance of student.
Please DO NOT depend on this scholarship to fulfill your educational or personal financial obligations. Unless
and until you are notified in writing that you are a scholarship recipient, and funds have been deposited into your
student account, the ASU Department of Visual Art has not, nor implies any level of financial support to
scholarship applicants.
I understand that if funds become unavailable through the Visual Arts Freshman/Transfer Scholarship Program, I
will be notified so that I can make other arrangements to cover my tuition and fees at Alabama State University.
Once your application is received, consideration will be given in a timely fashion. You will be notified, in
writing, of your status within 10 weeks of receipt of your completed application, including all reference letters
and the typed statement referred to above.
Prior to submitting this application, please review all items to insure accuracy. By signing below, you confirm
that the information included on this document and attached is true and accurate to the best of your knowledge.
Any false information will result in automatic denial of scholarship award and reporting to the appropriate
concerned parties.
I further understand and agree that if I fail to uphold my commitment in any area, I will be at risk of immediate
revocation of this scholarship award and, if warranted, will result in my ineligibility for future awards from this
