Delost – Dannessa Family Scholarship
2020-2021 Academic Year
Attorney Raymond M. Delost and Dr. Maria Dannessa Delost have established a scholarship in memory of the Dannessa family and in honor of the Delost
family for medical laboratory program students at Youngstown State University. The Delost family continues to value the opportunities available for higher
education at YSU.
Amil and Mary Dannessa also passionately supported Youngstown State University. Amil, an Italian immigrant had been awarded a scholarship to
Youngstown College, but was not able to attend due to military and family responsibilities.
Attorney Raymond Delost graduated from YSU in 1975 with a Bachelor of Arts Degree with a combined major of Political Science and Economics and
from the Cleveland State - Marshall College of Law with a Juris Doctor Degree in 1980. He is currently a Court Magistrate at the Trumbull County Family
Court and has been a practicing attorney in the Mahoning Valley for many years.
Maria Delost, Ph.D. graduated from YSU in 1979 with a Bachelor of Science in Medical Technology, a Master of Science in Biology from the University of
Akron in 1985, and a Ph.D. in Health-Related Sciences from the Medical College of Virginia- Virginia Commonwealth University in 2005. Since 1982, Dr.
Delost has been a devoted faculty member in the Dept. of Health Professions at YSU. During her tenure at YSU, Professor Delost served as program
director of the Medical Laboratory Programs, and was instrumental in developing the curriculum and preparing graduates to serve the needs of medical
laboratories locally, regionally and nationally.
She has published several scholarly articles as well as the textbook, Introduction to Diagnostic Microbiology for the Laboratory Sciences, which is used in
many medical laboratory programs throughout the country. Dr. Delost was recognized three times as a Distinguished Professor at YSU in teaching and
scholarship. She was granted Professor Emeritus status in 2016.
Criteria:
● For Undergraduate Students, only
● Students attending full-time or part-time
● Student majoring in a health-related field
- Preference given: Medical Laboratory Science and Medical Laboratory Technology majors
● Minimum 2.75 GPA
Completed application forms must be neatly typed and grammatically correct. Statements must be limited to the space provided-this applies to
computer-generated forms also. All forms and supporting materials are due no later than 4:00 p.m. on Friday, February 14, 2020.
NOTE: Applications will not be processed without complete information on each item listed above and all supporting documentation,
including letters of recommendation and transcripts from all universities.
The scholarship recipient will be announced during the Spring Semester.
