INFORMATION
Based on a change in Florida Statute (F.S.) 1009.25(2) regarding fee exemptions, Miami Dade College (MDC) will have a
limited number of out-of-state tuition waivers for students who have been granted Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals
(DACA) by the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). Effective Fall Term 2013, students who have been
granted DACA status may qualify to have the out-of-state portion of their tuition waived via a tuition waiver. Once the
out-of-state tuition waiver is approved and applied to DACA students’ accounts, they will be responsible for the in-state
tuition portion after all other scholarships, financial aid, grants and Florida Prepaid College Plan funds (if applicable) have
been applied. The waiver may be combined with other institutional scholarships. DACA Out-of-State Tuition Waivers
apply beginning Fall Term 2013 and are not retroactive.
Receipt of the DACA Out-of-State Tuition Waiver does not constitute classification as a Florida resident for tuition purposes
and does not necessarily qualify the recipient for such classification in the future. Students who are eligible for the DACA
out-of-state tuition waiver will remain classified as out-of-state for tuition purposes. The DACA Out-of-State Tuition
Waiver does not cover special fees such as those for aviation, culinary arts, nursing or any of the allied health programs and
is not disbursable in cash.
DACA students must apply for the DACA Out-of-State Tuition Waiver for the term in which they enroll (on or after
Fall 2013). The availability of these waivers is very limited. Therefore, applications will be considered on a first-come,
first-served basis. Waiver availability is neither guaranteed nor implied. Students found not to meet the DACA Out-of-State
Tuition waiver will be held responsible for the out-of-state amount. The same applies to anyone submitting false or
fraudulent information/documents.
DACA Out-of-State Tuition Waiver criteria
To qualify for the DACA Out-of-State Tuition Waiver, DACA students must:
1) Be enrolled at MDC in a degree-seeking program in the Fall Term 2013 or thereafter.
2) Maintain a minimum 2.0 cumulative GPA.
3) Meet all Florida residency for tuition purposes requirements, with the exception of the USCIS status, as listed on the
MDC web site (http://www.mdc.edu/main/flresidency/), OR have graduated from a Florida high school or have attended
another Florida state college or university for at least 12 consecutive months before the first day of classes for the MDC
term in which the DACA Out-of-State Tuition Waiver is sought (but not earlier than Fall Term 2013). Students must
request final, official transcripts to be sent directly to MDC. To determine the first day of classes, refer to the MDC
Academic Calendar, available at http://www.mdc.edu/main/academics/academic_calendar.aspx.
4) Complete the DACA Out-of-State Tuition Waiver Application and submit along with the unexpired, original USCIS
form I-797 (Notice of Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals – I821/I821D), which indicates the Deferred Action has
been approved, to an MDC campus Admissions and Registration Office prior to the first day of classes for the term in
which the waiver is sought (but not earlier than Fall Term 2013).
5) Students must resubmit the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) Out-of-State Tuition Waiver when the
DACA status expires.
DACA students may apply for the DACA out-of-state tuition waiver, as long as all documentation is dated and received
prior to the first day of class for the term in which the waiver is sought. Students can re-apply for the waiver in subsequent
terms, as long as they continue to meet the DACA out-of-state tuition waiver criteria and academic requirements noted
above.
No retroactive reimbursement of tuition payments for previous terms will be made.
