he Departmental Qualification Exam (DQE) is a language assessment tool used by the Department of Mass
Communication and Journalism. It covers areas such as spelling, punctuation, plurals and possessives, confusing
words, agreement, and pronoun case.
Successful completion is required of students before they can enroll in MCJ Department writing and editing courses.
A workshop reviewing DQE topics will be offered the first Saturday of each session. The exam will be offered on the
second Saturday of each session. A photo ID is required.
Note: Passing the DQE is a prerequisite for seven MCJ skills courses, including MCJ 10 & MCJ 102W.
