ARTICLE VII. - DEMOLITION OF BUILDINGS
Sec. 18-296. - Penalty.
Any person violating any of the provisions of this article shall, upon conviction thereof, be
punished as provided in section 1-14.

Sec. 18-297. - Bond.
No property owner shall tear down or demolish or permit such building to be torn down or
demolished, nor shall any other person tear down or demolish the same, until such property
owner shall deposit such sum in cash with the city clerk as the city engineer shall determine to be
the reasonable cost of restoring the premises to the condition provided for in section 18-298 to
guarantee that the property owner will comply with the provisions of section 18-298, and if such
property owner shall fail, neglect or refuse to comply therewith within 30 days from the date of
such tearing down or demolition, the city engineer shall proceed forthwith to put the premises in
the condition provided for in section 18-298 and the city clerk shall pay the actual expenses
incurred thereby from the deposit and the balance, if any, shall be returned to such owner.

Sec. 18-298. - Maintenance of premises.
The property owner shall, upon the tearing down or demolition of any building on his premises,
promptly and without delay clean, or cause to be cleaned, from the premises all debris, rubbish
and discarded building material and shall fill in all open wells, cisterns, cellars, basements and
other excavations remaining on such lots and leave the same in an even, clean and sanitary
condition unless the same are to be used immediately in connection with other structures to be
erected thereon, and put the premises in a clean and sanitary condition so as not to constitute a
menace to the public health or an unusual fire hazard or which may be or may become a nuisance.

Sec. 18-299. - Payment of taxes.
No property owner shall permit the demolition of any building or any house unless all taxes legally
levied or assessed on the premises shall have been fully paid, and the city clerk shall issue no
permit for such demolition until he is satisfied that all such taxes or assessments, or both, have
been fully paid.
