English Language Competency
For Nursing and Midwifery Course Applications
Admission to all nursing and Midwifery courses in Australia require you to demonstrate a high level English
proficiency. The Australian Nursing and Midwifery Accreditation Council (ANMAC) standards requires you to
complete the following declaration. I declare that:
1. English is my primary language* and by course commencement I have attended and
satisfactorily completed at least six years of primary and secondary education
(including at least two years between years 7 and 12) taught and assessed solely in English, in
either Australia, Canada, New Zealand, Republic of Ireland, South Africa, United Kingdom or
United States of America.
OR
2. I will have completed and achieved the minimum required score of one of the following
approved Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia (NMBA) English language proficiency tests
which was undertaken within two years of the course commencement date:
