In general, only one city block will be approved for closing, and a non-through street is preferred. In general, block
parties must end at 10 p.m., and must be controlled as to noise so that neighbors will not be unduly disturbed. All
block parties must comply with the following regulations:
1. Only the official barricades provided by the City may be used to close the access to the street.
2. Call the Municipal Services Dept. (MSD) at 453-7737 approximately one week prior to the date of your event, to
confirm the delivery of the street barricades.
3. The MSD will deliver street barricades at each intersection on the last workday prior to your event, and will pick
them up on the first workday after your event.
4. It is your responsibility to place the barricades in the street during the hours of your event and to move them back
to a safe location between the curb and sidewalk after your event.
5. An 18-foot wide fire lane must be maintained open to emergency vehicles for the entire length of the closed
street. Picnic tables, barbecue grills, and other portable equipment which can be readily moved if necessary may
be placed in the closed street in the area outside of the fire lane. Fire hydrants shall remain accessible.
6. In accordance with Wayne County Air Pollution rules, no open fires are permitted on the closed street or in yards.
Barbecue grills may be used for cooking on the closed street. Please take adequate safety precautions if a grill is
placed in the area where participants will be walking and playing
