Task: To have the patient, the room, and the examination equipment prepared for the provider to
complete a physical examination as you assist with the process as needed.
Supplies and Conditions: Gown, drape, stethoscope, ophthalmoscope, otoscope, tongue depressors, sterile gauze squares,
tuning fork, nasal speculum, tape measure, percussion hammer, vaginal speculum, guaiac test
kit, disposable gloves, lubricant, tissues, towel, Mayo tray, examination stool, exam lamp,
regular and biohazardous waste container, patient chart or EMR, and a pen.
Standards: A maximum of three attempts may be used to complete the task. The time limit for each attempt
is 25 minutes, with a minimum score of 70 percent. Scoring: Determine student’s score by
dividing points awarded by total points possible and multiplying results by 100.
