This is an application only
. A permit will be issued only after sign application, site plan
and structural plans have all been approved and all required fees and deposits are paid. For
billboards or awnings, a building permit is required in lieu of a sign permit. Sealed
structural drawings are required. Site plan approval from the Planning Dept. is required on
billboards.
There shall be no work started until a permit has been issued
, Signs that are
electrically energized require electrical permits as well as a sign permit.
Applications are to include construction plans showing the dimensions and details of
construction including anchorage. All drawings are to be done with the use of a straight
edge.
For freestanding signs the application must also be accompanied by a dimensional site plan
that accurately describes the location of the sign panels with respect to the public right of
way and shows the location of the proposed sign on the lot from at least two property lines.
The drawing must also show any other signage and its dimensions.
Applications for pylon signs must contain specifications prepared and sealed by a
registered engineer or architect of the State of Michigan.
Pylon Signs require an inspection of the foundation
Soil borings may be required where deemed necessary
Wall signage applications must be accompanied by a dimensional site plan showing which
wall of the structure the proposed signage is to be installed, with the proposed placement
on the wall. The plan must also show any existing signage and its dimensions that are on
the same wall as the proposed installation.

Deposits are refundable after Inspections Department has been notified upon the
completion of project and an inspection verifies that all applicable zoning, building, and
electrical codes have been met and no additional inspections are required. Additional
inspections are made at $40.00 each. Permit expires one year after issue or 180 days
without progress, and deposit and fees are forfeited and a new permit must be secured. No
Permit Refunds.
