CREWS FAMILY ENDOWMENT FOR ENGINEERING SCHOLARSHIP
APPLICATION INSTRUCTIONS FOR 2020-2021
Scholarships are available for incoming freshmen planning to major in engineering at Harding
University. The scholarships are funded by the Crews Family Endowment for Engineering, which
was set up by a very generous family of an engineering alumnus to help students start engineering
careers at Harding.
The endowment is expected to fund two $1,000 scholarships and one $500 scholarship
potentially for the students’ first two academic years, with one-half given the Fall semester and
one-half given the Spring semester each year.
REQUIREMENTS:
To be considered for an engineering scholarship, the student must
1. Apply and be accepted into the Fall 2020 class at Harding as a freshman
2. Declare Biomedical, Civil, Computer, Electrical, or Mechanical Engineering as their
primary major
3. Fill out the Crews Family Endowment for Engineering Scholarship Application,
which is found later in this application package
Students receiving the scholarships must maintain full time status for both Fall and Spring
semesters during the term of the award.
The scholarships may be continued for one additional year (i.e., through the students’ sophomore
year) as long the students remain full time for the full duration of the scholarship, keep an
engineering major as their primary major, maintain a Harding cumulative GPA of 2.75 or higher,
and progress in the declared engineering major by taking engineering major classes. Scholarship
funds will be applied to the students' Harding University accounts.
Scholarship deadline: March 13, 2020
To apply for the engineering scholarship, students must fill out the Crews Family Endowment for
Engineering Scholarship Application, which is found later in this application package. The
elements considered in awarding the scholarship include the student’s demonstrated diligence,
capability, leadership, scholarship, financial need and thoughts expressed in a required essay on
the topic, “What it means to be a Christian engineer.” The selection committee will also
consider the students’ ACT/SAT scores and the latest high school transcripts submitted
to Harding. Award announcements will be made by the end of April.
