TO: City of Socorro Naturan Gas Customers
FROM: The City of Socorro, Gas Department
RE: MAINTENANCE OF CUSTOMER-OWNED GAS PIPING (THE GAS PIPING THAT LIES BETWEEN THE GAS METER AND THE BUILDING)
During a seven month period in 1988-89, there was a series of five natural gas accidents that gained national attention. Congress the became
concerned about the safety of gas piping leading from the gas meter to the building, commonly woned by the individual customers. As a
result, by Congrassional mandate and through the Natural Gas Pipeline Safety Act, all gas utilities are being required to notify their customers
that the portion of gas line from the meter to the building is not maintained by the utility for the purpose of preventing potential gas leakage,
or for detecting and repairing gas leaks.
In accordance with this mandate (Docket PS-135, Amendment 192-3) the following is provided:
(1) Buried gas piping from the meter to your building is customer owned piping and is not maintained by the City of Socorro, Gas
Department.
(2) Buried steel gas piping that is not maintained may be subject to the potential
hazards of corrosion and leakage.
(3) Buried gas piping should be:
Periodically inspected for leaks;
Periodically inspected for corrosion if it is metal piping; and
Repaired if any unsafe condition is found.
(4) Call New Mexico One Call at 811 two working days before you plan any excavation.

Duante siete meses in 1988-89, hubo una serie de inco gas natural accidentes que adquirida atención nacional. El congreso se convirtió

Inspeccionados periódicamente de corrosión si las tuberías es metálico; y

(4) Llamada 2 días hábiles antes cualquier planee excavación.
