CHARLOTTE W. NEWCOMBE SCHOLARSHIP
Purpose:
The Charlotte W. Newcombe Foundation offers scholarships to women 25 and older who have completed half the credits
required for their degrees. Moravian College is one of a limited number of colleges selected by the Foundation to offer
these scholarships. Women whose education has been interrupted by marriage and family responsibilities or by work will
receive special consideration. Academic performance is also important.
Who is eligible?
Women who are (1) over 25 years of age (2) candidates for a baccalaureate degree or for post-baccalaureate professional
certification, (3) have earned at least half of the course units required in their degree or certificate program, and (4)
eligible for financial aid. Both part-time and full-time students are eligible.
The need for scholarships will be based on the individual woman's successful completion of the equivalent of two years
of college education, evidence of self motivation, the lack of available cash-flow to support college expenses, and the
woman's need to work to support herself and her family and pay for her college education. Special consideration will be
given to women whose assets are non-liquid; who could not handle emergency financial burdens within their family
without dropping out of school; who are partially eligible or not eligible for other forms of aid but who still do not have
enough funds to continue their studies; who are low-income women seeking careers; who are the sole-support of their
families; or who have no access to their husband's income.
Recipients of the scholarships will be expected to correspond with the Foundation while they are receiving assistance and
to participate in graduation ceremonies.
