Brown Henderson Outstanding Engineering Faculty Award
The award, established in honor of Dean Emeritus James Seay Brown and the late Dean James
M.
Henderson, first dean of the College of Engineering, may be awarded annually to a member
of the Tennessee Technological University engineering faculty for outstanding service while
employed at Tennessee Tech. NOMINATIONS ARE DUE December 1st.
Award Details
The award is primarily to recognize an outstanding faculty member who has made significant
contributions to the preparation of our students. Examples of such activities would include, but
are not limited to, classroom/laboratory performance, development of new
technology/courses, curriculum development, engaging/impacting students in meaningful
research activity and engaging/impacting students in meaningful services activities.
Award Portfolio
The award portfolio should include the following information:
A nomination letter detailing how the nominee meets the stated award criteria. Note
that it is expected the nominee and the nominator will work together to prepare the
award portf olio. The nomination letter should be no
more than five pages.

appendices can be included (such as: a high-profile journal publication, a new course
syllabus, an IDEA evaluation score for a particularly successful course, a thank-you note
for an important service endeavor, etc.)
A detailed and up-to-date curriculum vitae
Up to six letters of recommendation. The letters should support the award portfolio.
Award Criteria
The successful nominee will have provided evidence, through their award portfolio, of their
contributions in the areas of teaching, research and service, and particularly, how such
accomplishments improve the preparation of our graduates for their careers beyond Tennessee
Tech.
Note that unsuccessful award portfolios will be carried forward for consideration for two
subsequent years. However, the nominees are strongly encouraged to update their award
portfolios in order to have full consideration for the award.
