COMMITTEE OF THE WHOLE
The Board of Trustees of the Eastern Iowa Community College District (Merged Area IX)
met as the Committee of the Whole on January 26, 2009, in Room 206 at the Scott
Community College Urban Center, 306 West River Drive, Davenport, Iowa. President
Robert Gallagher called the meeting to order at 5:30 p.m. with the following directors
present: Kendra Beck, John Frampton, Bill Phelan, Milton Shaw, Shirley Stewart, Bill
Vetter. Absent: Dr. Joseph D’Souza, Mary Lou Engler. Also in attendance were
members of the EICCD Chancellor’s Cabinet.
The purpose of the meeting was to review current and predicted budget challenges and
to discuss ways to meet those challenges. Chancellor Keir reviewed the challenges,
including enrollment, state budget cuts and lower attrition/fewer retirements. She
asked staff members each to give a brief overview of the cost reduction research
projects they are conducting. She asked Lana Dettbarn to review several budget
scenarios. She also asked Ms. Dettbarn to review options for early retirement
incentives.
The Committee of the Whole adjourned at 6:58 p.m.
