Dyersburg State Community College is pleased to announce spring Eagle Cheerleader Try-outs! Do you have school spirit? Are you a
good role model? Do you enjoy meeting people? Do you need money for college? If you answered yes to these questions, you
should consider the Dyersburg State Eagle Cheer Program.
DSCC is excited to partner with Rainbow Gymnastics and Cheer. Under the direction of Kate Thompson, Rainbow Gymnastics and
Cheer will provide cheer instruction and oversight for the DSCC Eagle Cheerleaders! Cheer sponsor and Dean of Student Services,
Larenda Fultz, will host a spring co-ed try-out on Friday, January 20, 2012 from 5:45 p.m. 8:15 p.m. at Rainbow Gymnastics and
Cheer, 845 Jenkinsville Jamestown Road, Dyersburg. Cheerleader and a team mascot positions will be filled.
AT THE TRY-OUT!
At your try-out, prospective cheerleaders will meet Ms. Fultz and the Rainbow Gymnastics staff. Each candidate will participate in an
interview and receive an overview of the DSCC Cheer Program requirements. Participants will then work with the Rainbow
Gymnastics and Cheer staff and DSCC Cheerleaders to learn and perform a cheer. They will have the opportunity to show off any
special talent they would like to share. For more information and to schedule a try-out, contact the Office of Student Services at
731/286-3240 or email hall@dscc.edu. Try-out attire: Gym Shorts in an appropriate length, t-shirt with sleeves, and athletic shoes
with socks. No inappropriate logos or writing on t-shirts or shorts, short-shorts, long &/or baggy shorts, jewelry, hats or visors.
CHEERLEADER CANDIDATE REQUIREMENTS
Cheerleader candidates should meet all requirements for admission as a degree seeking student at DSCC. The candidate should
expect to attend DSCC Spring 2012 semester. The candidate should be registered for classes for the spring semester and be in good
standing academically and financially with the college. They should have no disciplinary action pending against them. Candidates
should be considered to have good moral conduct and to be a good role model.
CRITERIA FOR SELECTION
Criteria for selection will include the applicant’s academic standing, interview including appearance, attitude, and athleticism.
Previous cheer or dance experience is NOT required. All interested DSCC students (male and female) are encouraged to try-out.
EAGLE CHEERLEADERS HAVE BENEFITS
Cheerleaders receive a Performance-Based Scholarship ($500 per semester) and a Physical Education credit. The Cheerleader
Performance Scholarship requires attendance at all practices; performance at all men’s and women’s home basketball games; and
appearances at designated DSCC activities. Cheerleaders are required to maintain a minimum 2.0 grade point average and meet the
DSCC Financial Aid Satisfactory Progress Standards.
WHAT AN EAGLE CHEERLEADER CAN EXPECT
An Eagle Cheerleader can expect
to receive appropriate instruction in cheer, chant, simple gymnastics, and sideline decorum in a college setting provided by
experienced and qualified instructors;
to attend 2 weekly practice sessions (3 to 5 hours per week) beginning immediately after selection;
to participate in organized fund-raising activities, including the DSCC Annual Golf Tournament to Benefit Athletics;
(Proceeds from fundraisers will be used toward the cost of warm-ups, accessories and shoes.)
to be provided and accept responsibility for an official game uniform, a practice uniform and personal appearance attire;
to participate in exhibitions and recruitment activities. These may include community and college service activities and
personal appearances which promote the mission of Dyersburg State Community College and the DSCC Athletic
Department;
to serve as a representative of DSCC and a positive role model at all times.
