purposeofthisinformationcollectionistoallowATFtodetermineifthearticle(s)
describedontheapplicationqualiesforimportationbytheimporter,andtoserveas
theauthorizationfortheimporter.Thisinformationismandatory(18U.S.C.925(d),
26U.S.C.5844,22U.S.C.2778).
Theestimatedaverageburdenassociatedwiththiscollectionofinformationis30
minutes per respondent or recordkeeper, depending on individual circumstances.

General Information
1. AnapprovedATFForm6-PartI(5330.3A)isrequiredtoimportrearms,
ammunition, and defense articles into the United States or any possession
thereof,exceptforcertainexemptimportationsprescribedin27CFRParts
447,478and479.AmilitarymemberoftheU.S. ArmedForceswhoison
activedutyoutsidetheU.S.,orwhohasbeenonactivedutyoutsidetheU.S.
during the 60-day period immediately preceding the intended importation,
shouldcompleteATFForm6-PartII(5330.3B)toimportsportingtype
rearmsorammunitionforhispersonaluse.
2. Anypersonengagedinthebusinessofimportingrearmsorammunitionfor
resale must be licensed as an importer under the Gun Control Act of 1968
and,ifheisimportingrearms,ammunition,rearmspartsordefensearticles
(other than sporting shotguns, shotgun shells, or shotgun parts) he must
also be registered as an importer under the Arms Export Control Act of 1976.
Nopermittoimportsucharticlesforresalewillbeissueduntiltheimporteris
properly licensed and registered.
3. AFederalrearmslicensee,otherthananimporter,maymakeanoccasional
importationofsportingrearmsorammunition(excluding surplus military)
for himself or an unlicensed person in the licensee's State, provided that the
rearmsandammunitionareintendedforpersonaluseofthepersonfor
whomimportedandnotforresale.ATFForm6-PartI(5330.3A)isusedto
obtain approval for such importation.
4. ApermitisnotrequiredforarearmorammunitionbroughtintotheUnited
Statesoranypossessionthereofbyanypersonwhocanestablishtothe
satisfactionofU.S.CustomsandBorderProtection(CBP)thatsuchrearmor
ammunitionwaspreviouslytakenoutoftheUnitedStatesoranypossession
thereof by such person.
5. Apermitisnotrequiredforthereturnofarepairedrearm,orreplacement
rearmofthesamekindandtype,tothepersonintheUnitedStateswhosent
thedefectiverearmoutoftheUnitedStatesforrepair.
6. Ifyouareanonimmigrantalien,donotcompletethisform.Anonimmigrant
alienenteringtheU.S.temporarilyneedstosubmitanATFForm6NIA
(5330.3D)(ApplicationandPermitforTemporaryImportationofFirearms
andAmmunitionbyNonimmigrantAliens)totemporarilyimporthis
personallyownedrearms.
7. An unlicensed person may obtain a permit to import sporting type
ammunition(excludingtracerorincendiary)andrearmparts(otherthan
frames,receivers,oractions)withoutengagingtheservicesofaFederal
rearmslicensee,providedthattheimportationisforhispersonaluseandnot
for resale.
8. A nonresident U.S. citizen returning to the United States or a nonresident
alien immigrating to the United States, from a permanent residence outside of
theUnitedStates,maycompleteandforwardtheenclosedATFForm6PartI
permitapplicationwithouthavingtoutilizetheservicesofafederally
licensedrearmsdealer.Thenonresidentshouldincludeastatement,either
ontheapplicationformoronanattachedsheet,thattherearmsarebeing
imported for his personal use and not for resale, the date of return and that he is a
nonresident U.S. citizen returning to the United States, or is a nonresident alien

immigratingtotheUnitedStates.Therearmsmustaccompanythe
nonresident U.S. citizen or nonimmigrant alien immigrating to the United States
on entry into the United States, since once he is in the United States, and has
acquiredresidenceinaState,hemaynotdirectlyimportarearm.Hemust
engagetheservicesofafederallylicensedrearmsdealerinhisStateof
residencetoimportthesportingrearms(excluding NFA and surplus
military) for him.
9. UnderArmsExportControlActof1976regulationsin27CFR447.41(c),a
permitisnotrequiredfortheimportationof:
a. U.S.MunitionsImportListarticlesfromCanadanotsubjectto27CFR
Part478and479,exceptarticlesenumeratedinCategoriesI,II,III,IV,
VI(e),VIII(a),XVI,andXX;andnuclearweapons,strategicdelivery
systems,andallspecicallydesignedcomponents,parts,accessories,
attachments,andassociatedequipmentthereof.
b. MinorcomponentsandpartsofCategoryI(a)rearms,exceptbarrels,
cylinders,receivers(frames)orcompletebreechmechanisms,whenthe
totalvaluedoesnotexceed$100wholesaleinanysingletransaction.
Preparation
10. Theapplicantshallpreparethisformintriplicate.Requiredsignaturesmust
beininkonallcopies.Otherentriesmustbeininkorbetypewritten.
11. The application should be submitted approximately 60 days prior to the
intendedimportation.Allcopiesshallbesubmittedto:

13. Ifalicenseeisapplyingtoimportanarticleforsubsequenttransfertoa
knownnalrecipient(e.g., an individual, commercial entity, or government
agency), the licensee must complete items 1 through 16, and
identifythenalrecipientbynameandaddressinitem10.
14. Item9,CerticationofOrigin:Thepurposeofthiscerticationisto
determinewhetheritemssoughtforimportationrequireretransfer
authorization from the Department of State. Applicants should check block
9aifthearticlessoughtforimportationwereproducedforthecivilianmarket
andwerenotassociatedwiththeU.S.military.Applicantsshouldcheckblock
9b if the articles sought for importation contain parts or components produced
byorfortheU.S.militaryormanufacturedwithU.S.militarytechnicaldata
orassistance,andthearticleswereprovidedbytheU.S.governmenttoa
foreign government through a grant or foreign military sales program.
Applicants should check block 9c if the articles sought for importation
contain parts or components produced by or for the U.S. military or
manufacturedwithU.S.militarytechnicaldataorassistance,andthearticles
weresoldabroadpursuanttoanexportlicenseissuedbytheDepartmentof
StateauthorizingaDirectCommercialSale(DCS).NOTE:Ifblock9bis
checked,awrittenretransferauthorizationfromtheDepartmentofStatemust
beattachedtotheapplicationortheapplicationswillbedenied.NOTE:If
block 9c is checked, either a copy of the export license authorizing the DCS
orawrittenretransferauthorizationfromtheDepartmentofStatemustbe
attachedtotheapplicationortheapplicationwillbedenied.
Approval
15. TheDirectorwillapprovetheapplicationoradvisetheapplicantofthereason
forthedisapproval.Insomecasesitmaybenecessarytorequestadditional
informationortohavetherearmorammunitionsenttoATFforexamination
to determine the import status.
