Alumnae Association Board Scholarship
Each year the Alumnae Association Board (AAB) selects four students to be the recipients of the most
prestigious scholarships the Stephens College Alumnae Association bestows upon Stephens students.
Three scholarships will be awarded to three rising, residential students – one sophomore, one junior, and one
senior. The fourth student must be a graduating senior who will be awarded a $250 award and the honor of
being the class speaker for her class’ commencement ceremony in May. Award recipients will be announced
during Honors Convocation and invited to have lunch with the AAB during Celebrate Stephens reunion
weekend.
The selection committee is looking for applicants who epitomize the qualities of a Stephens Woman – one who
embodies the Ten Ideals throughout her daily life. Recipients must demonstrate not only academic excellence,
but also show commitment to the Stephens community through passionate engagement, service and leadership.
Eligibility
Be a current, undergraduate student at Stephens College
Be a rising sophomore, junior, or senior OR Be a graduating senior
Have a cumulative GPA of 3.3 or higher
(Note: Individuals currently receiving the Stephens College employee tuition discount and online students are
not eligible.)
Application Details
A complete application must include the following 4 items and be submitted as hardcopies (electronic
applications are not accepted). Applications may be compiled in one manila envelope or folder and include all
of the following:
1. Applicant Information Sheet
2. A current resume
3. Two letters of recommendation – one of whom must be a Stephens College employee.
4. Essay responses – typed, double spaced, 1-inch margins, 12 point Times New Roman font.
Failure to include any of the four portions of the application will automatically remove you from consideration
as an applicant.
Submission
Applications are welcome at any time. Those received by 5 p.m. March 21st
will be reviewed for consideration.
Applications must be turned in to the Office of Institutional Advancement and Initiatives, room 337 Lela Raney

2. A current resume
Please make sure your resume is up-to-date. The quality and professionalism of your resume is just as important
as the experiences you describe on it – and all of these things will be considered when reviewing your
application.
3. Two letters of recommendation
Letters of recommendation should come from individuals you identify as mentors or who can speak to more
than your application and resume. Because the selection committee cares about your commitment to Stephens,
please make sure one recommender is a Stephens College employee.
Please give each of your recommenders the attached Recommender’s Information Sheet, which describes the
requirements for turning in a letter.
4. Essays
Please answer each of the following questions in 1 page, double spaced with 1-inch margins in 12-point Times
New Roman font.
1) Please describe what you believe to be your biggest contribution to the Stephens community thus far.
2) Rising Sophomores, Juniors and Seniors: Identify a problem within the Stephens community and
describe your solution to it.
Graduating Seniors: Identify a problem within the Stephens community, describe your solution to it, and
explain how you plan on staying involved with Stephens after graduation.

Please make sure your letter is no more than one single-spaced page and addresses the following:
Your relationship to the student.
How does the applicant epitomize the qualities of a Stephens Woman?
How has the applicant shown not only academic excellence, but also a commitment to the Stephens
community through passionate engagement, service and leadership?
Please make sure your letter is returned to the student sealed in an envelope with your signature across the seal.
Please keep in mind that the student’s complete application, including your letter, is due by 5 p.m. March 21st.
