NATURAL GAS UTILITY TAX : Newport News City Code §40-116 through §40-125.
Unless specifically exempted or excluded under Newport News City Code §40-119, a monthly tax is hereby levied on a "per meter" basis, on each
purchase of natural gas delivered to consumers by pipeline distribution companies and gas utilities in the following classes:
Residential: $1.51 per month
Commercial: $1.29 + $0.067602 per CCF on the first 128.91 CCFs (Tier One), + $0.032576 per CCF on all remaining CCFs (Tier Two),
total tax not to exceed $55.00 per month.
Industrial & Other Classes of Non-Residential Consumers: $1.29 + $0.067602 per CCF on the first 128.91 CCFs (Tier One),
+ $0.032576 per CCF on all remaining CCFs (Tier Two), total tax not to exceed $55.00 per month.

LOCAL CONSUMPTION TAX: VIRGINIA STATE CODE §58.1-2904
In addition to the local consumer utility tax, a tax on the consumers of natural gas in the Commonwealth based on CCFs delivered and used per

$0.004 per CCF on all natural gas consumed per month not in excess of 500 CCFs.
