IMPORTANT INFORMATION REGARDING FALSE ALARMS: In accordance with Section 5.12.120 of the
Long Beach Municipal Code, after each false alarm, the Chief of Police or his designee shall notify the
permittee in writing of the date and time the Police Department responded to that false alarm and the
number of false alarms of record attributed to that alarm system within the previous twelve (12) month
period. Within ten (10) days from the date of said notice, the permittee may present written evidence to
the Chief of Police or designee that the alarm response in question was not, in fact a false alarm. If no such
evidence is submitted by the permittee within said ten (10) day period, the alarm response will be
considered a false alarm. A service charge shall be charged to the permittee of a particular system for the
second and subsequent false alarms in a twelve (12) month period.
LONG BEACH MUNICIPAL CODE ALARM ORDINANCE
In accordance with Section 5.12.120, Long Beach Municipal Code, the Chief of Police prescribes the following Standards and
Regulations:
STANDARDS
1S. No person shall install or maintain any audible alarm which: Creates a sound similar to that of an emergency vehicle
siren or a civil defense warning system; or does not automatically discontinue emitting an audible sound within 15 minutes.
2S. All alarm systems shall be equipped with an uninterruptible power supply in such a manner that the failure of interruption
of normal electrical utility power shall not activate the alarm system. This power supply must be capable of at least four
hours of operation.
REGULATIONS
1R. Any person who operates an alarm for which said system signals: Two false alarms in any (12) twelve -month period will
be assessed a service charge for each occurrence.
2R. All alarm system shall be kept in good repair.
3R. All alarms when reported to the Communications Center, shall be stated in the following manner:
Type of alarm: 211 Robbery or 459 Burglary
Address of alarm
Type of business or premises
Company or answering service reporting alarm
Identification of employee reporting alarm in (d) above
4R. No person shall install an alarm system regulated by this ordinance that terminates in the Communications Center of
the City of Long Beach except an alarm system protecting City, County, State or Federal properties.
5R. When an alarm system has been activated, the alarm business and/or the permittee shall have an alarm agent and/or
other person in responsible control present at the location within 30 minutes after being requested to do so by a
representative of the City's Communication Center and/or the Long Beach Police Department.
6R. No automatic dialing devices shall be programmed to dial any of the emergency and/or "Call for Service" numbers
servicing the City's Communication Center.
7R. All premises having an alarm system permit shall file and keep current an Emergency Notification Card with the Long
Beach Police Department.
8R. The address of the alarm shall identify the exact location of the alarm; e.g., the specific building or portion of building
protected and not a group of buildings.
9R. All new installations shall comply with all Standards that are published and in effect at the time of installation. Except
those alarm systems that are operational at the time of publication of these standards. Alarm systems that qualify under this
exception must comply within one year to date after the publication of the Standard.
10R. No person and/or business shall utilize, for personal gain, any information received via the reception of radio
transmission from any emergency frequency of the City of Long Beach.
11R. After each false alarm the Chief of Police designees shall notify the permittee in writing of the date and time that the
Police Department responded to that false alarm and the number of false alarm of record attributed to that alarm system
within the previous twelve month period. Within ten days from the date of said notice, the permittee may present written
evidence to the Chief of Police designees that the alarm response in question was not in fact a false alarm. If no such
response is made by the permittee within said ten day period, the Police Chief designee order shall be final.
