Course Catalog Description
Overview of computer systems-hardware, operating systems, and microcomputer
application software, including the Internet, word processing, spreadsheets,
presentation graphics, and databases. Current issues such as the effect of computers
on society, and the history and use of computers in business, educational, and other
modern settings are also studied. This course is not intended to count toward a
student's major field of study in business or computer science. (These courses are no
longer cross-listed as BCIS 1301 and 1401).

List any specific or physical requirements beyond a typical classroom required to teach the
course.
A computer for each student running Windows 7 client operating system and Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Power
Point, and Access-current version) with an Internet connection. A computer and data projector are needed for the
instructor.
Course Requirements/Grading System: Describe any course specific requirements such as research papers or
reading assignments and the generalized grading format for the course.
This course has an on-line component for training and exams that requires a voucher to access (the voucher and
Windows version of Microsoft Office is packaged with the textbook). This course covers the Windows operating system
and current Windows version of Microsoft Office. Therefore, a Macintosh cannot be used for this course in the online
environment.
There is a teamwork project which consists of 4 parts and requires the students to work together as a group. The group
members are assigned by the instructor.
