Course Requirements/Grading System: Describe any course specific requirements such as research papers or
reading assignments and the generalized grading format for the course.
Grading System: A = 100-93, B = 92-84, C = 83-75, D = 74-67, F = 66 and below
A minimum grade of 75 is required to pass DHYG 2231 and progress in the dental hygiene program.
Examinations (six examinations which includes a Mock National Board Dental Hygiene exam) 60%
Other Course Work (quizzes, reflection paper, group projects, case study assignments) 20%
Presentations (Emergency and Indices PowerPoint) 20%
Capstone Experience: A Mock National Board Dental Hygiene Examination that tests comprehensive cognitive abilities is
given in this course. The examination assesses the ability to understand important information from basic biomedical,
dental, and dental hygiene sciences and the ability to apply such information in a problem-solving context. Successful
completion of the Mock examination is a pre-requisite to taking the National Board Dental Hygiene Examination prior to
graduation.
ATTENDANCE POLICY: This lecture class meets once a week for two hours. Students are expected to be present and
prompt for class. Two tardies will equal an absence. Students must sign an attendance sheet to be counted present.
Absences in excess of two scheduled classes in this course will result in academic dismissal from DHYG 2231. A student
may petition faculty, in writing, for consideration of excess absences resulting from special circumstances. Absence
from an examination will necessitate make up of the examination on the first day of return to classes. A discretionary 10
points deduction may be assessed for each additional day until completion of the examination. Instructor reserves the
right to give an alternate make up exam if an exam is missed. Quizzes cannot be made up due to absences or tardiness.
