Accessory Building / Patio / Patio Cover / Storm Shelter / Fence Permit Process
1. The Accessory Building Permit Application must be fully completed, including an estimated valuation
of the project, square footage, and description of work to be performed. The contractor(s) performing
the work must be registered with the City.
2. Site plans must be included with application.
3. Payment is received by the City. Permit fees vary depending on structure.
4. City staff process the application:
o Payment is processed.
o Receipt is generated.
o Copy of application and any supporting documentation is sent to Bureau Veritas.
o Permit is issued.
o Application is marked as “pending inspections” and filed.
5. Contractor or homeowner must contact Bureau Veritas at 877-837-8775 to request inspections. The
number and type of inspections will vary depending on the structure.
6. After inspections are performed, Bureau Veritas submits the results of the inspection to the City. After
all inspection are passed, the application is marked as complete, recorded, and filed.
*Property owners who qualify for and claim a homestead exemption may perform the work themselves in lieu
of a contractor. In such cases, a permit and inspection is still required.
