Steps:
1. Identify the ordered pairs for the given
points.
2. Determine the absolute value from the
given points to the axis that separates
the points.
3. Add or subtract the two absolute values
to find the distance between them.

Absolute value: the distance between 0 and
any number on the number line
Example: -4 and 4 are both 4 units away
from zero.

The distance between –4 and 4 is the
sum of the absolute value of each
distance from zero.
|-4| + |4| = 8
