Attend professional development training Summer 2017
Obtain supervisor’s approval to teach ASU 1101
Teach required course goals & learning outcomes
Use common assignments (e.g. Common Article/Reader, Title IX, etc.)
Use point system for grading all ASU 1101 assignments

Experience teaching first-year students
Involvement in retention and/or student success related work
Scholarly research or presentations related to the first-year experience
ASU 1101 Course Description
ASU 1101 is a one-credit hour course designed to help students develop strategies and skills
necessary for a successful college career. Course goals include developing academic skills,
identifying campus resources and services, developing a connection to the institution, establishing
self-exploration and personal development, and understanding behaviors related to health and
wellness.
ASU 1101 Course Goals & Learning Outcomes
1. Develop academic skills
o Create an academic plan
o Demonstrate how to evaluate information sources
o Develop writing skills
o Identify study skills
o Improve critical thinking skills
o Recognize learning styles and implement strategies to use in the classroom
2. Develop a connection with the institution
o Connect with academic advisor
o Establish social connections with peers
o Form academic connections with faculty and staff
o Identify institutional, department, and course policies
o Recognize the purpose and value of academic integrity
3. Identify campus resources & services
o Demonstrate use of ASU technology: student email, website, D2L, etc.
o Utilize information systems (Galileo, GIL-Find) provided by the university library

o Describe concepts of diversity
o Develop skills in financial literacy
o Distinguish ways to relieve student stressors
o Improve personal strategies for success
