ASSOCIATE DEGREE REQUIREMENTS
Effective Fall 2001
Associate in Arts Degree
1. Sixty (60) units with at least 2.0 (C) grade point average in all courses/units applicable to the Associate Degree.
A. Residence requirements:
1. A minimum of twelve (12) units in residence at district colleges or centers, with attendance during the last semester
prior to graduation, or
2. A total of forty-five (45) units in residence at district colleges or centers if not in attendance during the last semester
prior to graduation.
B.
At least twenty (20) units in a discipline (major) or from related disciplines with a GPA of 2.0 or better. (See specific major
requirements.)
2. The demonstration of competence in writing either by means of a prescribed score on the English portion of the specified
proficiency tests or by completing AT 31, ENGL 1A, 1AH, 25, 53, or ESL 67 with a grade of "C" (2.0) or better. Course work
in English must be taken to satisfy the D.1 English Composition General Education graduation requirement. For further

3. The demonstration of competence in reading either by means of meeting the reading requirement for English 1A eligibility by an
appropriate standardized test score or by completing English 26 or ESL 68 with a grade of “C” (2.0) or better. Students with a
grade of “C” or better in English 1A or equivalent course met at another college, meet the reading requirement. Students with a
grade of “C” or better in English A, taken at Fresno City College only, meet the reading requirement also. For further

4. The demonstration of competence in oral communication skills by the successful completion of SPEECH 1, 2, 4, 8, or 25 with a
grade of “C” (2.0) or better.
5. The demonstration of competence in mathematics by the successful completion of AT 130, DRAFTING 60, DS 17, MATH 1, or
any advanced math course with a grade of "C" (2.0) or better, or by the achievement of prescribed score on the mathematics
portion of a specified proficiency test. For further information, see a counselor.
6. Completion of one course in Human Development and Understanding: CHDEV 38/PSY 38, HLTH 1, PSY 2, 2H, 33 or 63.
7. Completion of two courses of Physical Education and/or dance. Exceptions will be allowed for those students who are
veterans, P.O.S.T. program candidates, Basic Fire Academy graduates or who submit a physician's statement certifying that
they are not physically able to participate in physical education classes. Physical Education courses that WILL NOT meet this
requirement are: 20, 22, 24, 29A, 30A, 31A, 32A, 33A, 34A, 36A, 37A, 38A, 39A, 40A or 41A. Students entering FCC or
RC (KRCC) prior to Fall 1978 are exempt from this requirement.
8. Completion of one course in the principles of national, state, and local government: POLSCI 2 OR 10. Course may also meet
Area B.1*
9. The demonstration of familiarity with computer concepts and use of the computer by successfully completing one of the
following with a grade of “C” (2.0) or better: (A) a course in the student's major that has been designated by the Division of
that major as meeting the computer familiarity requirement; (B) AT 10; BT 2, 3, 7, 18, 23, 26 or 28; GRC 5, 12, 13, 14, 15,
16, 17, 20, 22, 23, 30 or 41; HIST 21 (History major only); IS 12, 14, 15, 18, 26; Music majors only: MUS 1A, 1B, 2A, 2B, 5,
7A, 7B or 9; Respiratory Care majors only: RCARE 22 & 23; or (C) passing the Computer Familiarity Exam.
10. A minimum of eighteen (18) units in general education with at least three (3) units in each of the following categories: (See the
reverse for the courses available within these areas):
A. Natural Sciences (3 units) C. Humanities (3 units)
B1. Government and Constitution (3 Units) D1. English Composition (3 units)
B2. Other Social and Behavioral Sciences (3 units) D2. Communication and Analytical Thinking (3 units)
Associate in Science Degree
Minimum requirements for the Associate in Science Degree are the same as for the Associate in Arts Degree with the exception
of the major requirement which specifies completion of a specific pattern of courses in any occupational curriculum or
completion of at least twenty (20) units in the physical sciences, the biological sciences and engineering.
Certificate of Achievement
A Certificate of Achievement shall be awarded to students who successfully complete a specified occupational curriculum
(minimum of 20 units) with a 2.0 GPA for required curricula courses. The specific courses required for the Certificate of
Achievement are identified in each occupational degree curriculum where such certificates are awarded.
*out of state students and those who had a course in which all topics were not covered, must take POLSCI 2 or 10.

10; BT 2, 3, 7, 14, 18, 23, 26 or 28; GRC 5, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17, 20, 22, 23, 30 or 41; IS 12, 14, 15, 18, or 26; (C)
