ACSA COUNCIL MEMBER RECOMMENDATION FORM
For the Student Services & Special Education Council
Purpose of Council: Identifies and studies issues relating to administrators in the areas of special education,
student services, and coordinated child and youth services. Recommends practices, policies, and legislation to ensure
high quality programs in the areas listed above. Improves collaboration and communication among general
education, student services, and special education, and other support agencies/organizations. Facilitates the
development and understanding of current trends and financial issues in student services and special education. Plans
and coordinates professional development offerings for school administrators or designees, including student
services and special education administrators, and especially new administrators and those with new or changing
roles. Assists ACSA in membership recruitment.
Responsibilities of council members:
To uphold the purpose of the council (above) with proactive work.
To submit, review, and/or consider legislation related to pupil services and /or special education.
To actively support the annual Student Services/Special Education Symposium.
To identify significant issues in the areas of student services/special education and provide leadership/direction to
California administrators working with those issues.
Initiate discussions at State council level about regional issues which have statewide impact
Attend three state council meetings yearly and lead a subcommittee or activity for one year
Serve as a representative for Student Services/Special Education on other related committees/councils with other
organizations
Ability to: Experience:
Identify and respond to critical issues proactively, in
written and oral presentations.
Analyze, critique and support legislation.
Be a team player.
In the fields of special education and/or student services
as an administrator in California; other committee/task
force membership and legislative action helpful.
In leadership positions dealing with Student Services
and/or Special Education issues.
