Rev. 1/2021
ACADEMIC
FORGIVENESS POLICY
At the time of readmission to Winthrop, a student who has been absent for five calendar years or longer
may choose to reenter under the “academic forgiveness policy.”
Under this policy, all courses previously taken at Winthrop University are treated as if they were transfer
credit from another institution for purposes of granting credit toward graduation. As with transfer credit,
these earlier courses are not used in computing the student’s Winthrop grade-point average.
NOTE: All earlier courses lost due to utilization of academic forgiveness, and the grades earned
remain on the student’s official transcript and are counted in computing eligibility for graduation academic
honors(Cum laude, magna cum laude, summa cum laude).
