Message from President Buxton
Dear Colleagues,
The year 2020 has been an unusual one for all of us. This year’s virtual Campus Fund Drive is another sign
of these unprecedented times. Each of you has gone above and beyond to support our students and carry out
our mission in spite of challenges. For that, the entire Durham Tech community is grateful.
I have come to understand that year in and year out you consistently demonstrate generosity in giving. Your
support has helped propel Durham Tech, assisting thousands of students and their family members through
scholarships and aid. The Campus Fund Drive is your annual invitation to continue to build a brighter
future for our students, our College, and our community.
Your generosity ensures we continue to learn and grow and make an impact on our students. Our goal this
year is 100% participation among faculty and staff. In particular, we aim to raise resources for the newly
launched Equity & Inclusion Fund. This fund will help provide anti-racism and anti-bias professional
development for faculty and staff. It also will support the integration of anti-racism and culturally responsive
instruction in curricula, and enable the College to undertake the ongoing analysis of our own institutional
capacity and the systems that support structural racism and create barriers for students of color.
Each year, your generous contributions to the Campus Fund Drive provide important support for scholarship
programs, trainings in the Teaching-Learning Center, Viva the Arts projects, the employee mini-grant
program, and more. These resources create opportunities that allow us to invest in employees and students
beyond what the College’s budget provides.
Choose a fund that matters to you, such as the Emergency Financial Assistance Fund, the Campus Harvest
Food Pantry, the Library Resources Fund, or a specific scholarship. This year, I encourage you to make your
annual gift and consider a special contribution to the Equity & Inclusion Fund over and above that amount
if you are able.
Thank you for your continuing to be the change in our students lives and in our community. Your dedication
to student success manifests both inside and outside of the classroom. Thank you for making a difference and
Emerging Together!
