To be eligible for SCNBG, the student must:
1. Be a “needy student” as defined by the financial need analysis used for determining eligibility for federal student financial aid,
and
2. Be a legal resident of the State of South Carolina for the last 12 months, be a U.S. Citizen or lawful permanent resident, and
3. Be enrolled or accepted for enrollment in a program authorized by the S.C. Commission on Higher Education, and
4. Be seeking for the first time a certificate, diploma or associate’s degree. A student who has already obtained an associate’s
degree or a bachelor’s degree is not eligible for SCNBG, and
5. Be enrolled at the time of the grant disbursement in at least six credit hours. A student enrolled in all remedial courses is not
eligible for SCNBG. Zero level, 100 level and COL 103 are considered remedial courses. A student enrolled less than half-
time (1-5 credit hours) cannot receive SCNBG.
For continued eligibility for the next academic year, a student enrolled full-time during the fall and spring semesters must earn a
minimum of 24 credit hours during the academic year. A student enrolled part-time during the fall and spring semesters must earn
a minimum of 12 credit hours during the academic year. Students enrolled in a combination of full-time and part-time during the
fall and spring semesters must earn a minimum of 18 credit hours during the academic year. Students must also meet the financial
aid office’s satisfactory academic progress (SAP) policy and maintain a cumulative GPA of at least 2.0. Students must complete
the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), their financial aid file and earn the required credit hours while SCNBG
funds are still available for each year.
Any false information provided by the student or any attempt to obtain or expend SCNBG for unlawful purposes or any purpose
other than in payment or reimbursement for the cost of tuition and fees at Technical College of the Lowcountry will be cause for
immediate cancellation of SCNBG. Any student who has obtained a SCNBG through means of a willfully false statement or failure
to reveal any material fact, condition, or circumstances affecting eligibility will be subject to applicable civil or criminal penalties,
including loss of the SCNBG.
I certify that I have not been convicted of any felonies. I certify that I have not been convicted of a second or subsequent alcohol
or drug related misdemeanor offense during the preceding calendar year defined as 12 months from the date of the start of
school for the period of the award (August 2020). I agree to notify the financial aid office should this status change by August
2020. I also certify that I do not owe a refund or repayment on any state or federal educational grant, and I am not in default
on any state or federal student loan. I understand that funding for the SCNBG is contingent upon approval by the State
Legislature each year.
