Your parent’s 2019-2020 FAFSA application has been identified by the U.S. Department of Education for potentially containing
conflicting information between your parent’s Marital Status and Tax Filing Status. Federal Regulations require that institutions verify
the accuracy of this data and to resolve any conflicting information.
According to the IRS, a tax payer must use a tax filing status of married filing jointly or married filing separately if they are married or
considered married on December 31, 2017. If you were “unmarried” or “considered unmarried” on December 31, 2017, the tax filing
status is single, or if you have a qualifying dependent you may file as head of household.
SECTION I – Verification of Parent’s Marital Status & Tax Filing Status (To Be Completed by Parent)
Please Note:
The Southern Crescent Office of Financial Aid cannot proceed with processing and packaging the student award until
all required financial aid documents are submitted and conflicting information is resolved.
Based on the information provided on this form, the Office of Financial Aid will update the student’s 2019-2020
FAFSA accordingly.
