ARKANSAS TECH SOLO COMPETITION
2018-2019 GUIDELINES
General Information:
• Competition to take place on April 7, 2019 from 6pm-7:30pm in Witherspoon Auditorium.
• Adjudication of the competition will be by a panel of professional musicians and teachers, not directly associated
with Arkansas Tech.
• Each applicant will be provided with a high-quality video recording of their performance.
Eligibility:
• Candidates must be music majors who are enrolled in applied lessons or MUS 4001 (Senior Recital) within the
Department of Music.
• Successful completion of the sophomore barrier is required to participate.
• This competition is limited to the following instruments: voice, piano, winds, brass, & percussion.
• Past winners are ineligible.
Application:
• Applications are due by 5:00pm on March 25, 2019.
• Applications require three signatures: Applicant, applicant’s accompanist, and the applicant’s studio teacher.
• Late or incomplete applications will not be accepted.
Audition Requirements:
• Selections should not exceed 15 minutes in length.
o Appropriate cuts to the music should be made to meet the length restrictions.
o Performances that exceed 15 minutes will be interrupted.
• Memorization is encouraged, but not required.

Exception
:
Memorization is required for pianists.
• Vocalists should prepare the following:
o One aria in the original language.
o One art song in a foreign language.
o One art song in English.
Audition Schedule:
• An audition order will post on the board in front of the music office and on Dr. Perry’s door no later than
April 1, 2019.
Winners:
• The declared winner will be awarded the following:
o Prize money in the form of scholarship money totaling $150.
o Having his/her name etched into a permanent plaque to be displayed in a prominent location in the
department.
o A feature profile in the alumni newsletter.
