THIRD PARTY VERIFICATION REGARDING MINORS TRAINING
____________________________ (“Third-Party Entity”) wishes to host a program on
the University of Dayton (“University”) campus that involves minors.
Under its Minors on Campus and Working with Children Policy (“Minors Policy”), the
University requires that, for adults to be authorized (i.e., “authorized adults”) to work with
children in the context of a program on campus, such adults must take training about the
University’s Minors Policy. However, the Third-Party Entity has a comparable training program
that addresses many of the same elements of the University’s own training, such that requiring
Third-Party Entity to take the University’s training would be unnecessarily redundant. The
University’s Office of Legal Affairs has reviewed Third-Party Entity’s training program and
determined that it generally satisfies the training requirements of the University’s Minors Policy.
One unique element in the University’s training, which derives from its Minors Policy, is
that for events/programs involving minors on the University’s campus,
a. any instances of known or suspected child abuse;
b. any instances of the known or suspected threat of child abuse; or
c. violations of the University’s Minors Policy;
must be reported in two ways. First, such issues must be reported to the University’s Office of
Public Safety at 937.229.2121. Second, such issues must be reported to the person in charge of
the program; in the case of a Third-Party Entity using University facility, this person would
typically be the University contact who assisted in booking the University facility for the
event/program. Third-Party Entity is required to comply with these reporting requirements. If
Third-Party Entity has any questions regarding these reporting requirements, including but not
limited to the identity of the person in charge of the program, then Third-Party Entity will
contact the Office of Legal Affairs at legalaffairs@udayton.edu or 937.229.4333. Third-Party
Entity is fully responsible for any failure to comply with these reporting requirements.
The University’s reporting requirements are independent of any obligations to report that
certain individuals may have under Ohio law. Any person associated with Third-Party Entity
who qualifies as a “mandatory reporter” under O.R.C. § 2151.241 is still responsible for
complying with his or her mandatory reporter obligations.
